Vita Free Tax Help is now offered in three Merced County locations,  Merced, Winton, and Los Banos. VITA volunteers are trained, according to IRS guidelines to fill out basic tax forms including the ones needed to claim the EIC and the CTC

WHAT should workers bring to a VITA site?

  • W-2 forms for jobs held in 2014
  • Your spouse, if married filing jointly
  • 1099 forms
  • Picture ID for you and your spouse
  • Bank account routing numbers
  • Any notice letter received from the IRS
  • Any other tax documents
  • Student loan interest paid
  • Social Security cards & birth dates for you, your spouse & your children
  • Any children born before 12/31/14 are needed to claim the EIC.
  • Workers with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) should bring the ITIN letter sent to them by the IRS. Workers need either an ITIN or an SSN to claim the Child Tax Credit.
  • Health insurance documentation (see the 2015 VITA Site Checklist in this Kit for details)
  • Prior year tax returns.
