Dos
Palos Youth in Crisis & Outreach
The
Dos Palos Youth in Crisis & Outreach organization
is a non-profit concern providing services in the Westside
community of Dos Palos. Their food program; Emergency
Food Pantry and Outreach, receives partial funding from
the United Way of Merced County. Although the name of
the agency emphasizes outreach services to youth, they
actually strive to serve people of all ages, regardless
of race, creed or religion.
One
of their primary goals is that no children in the Dos
Palos area have to go to bed hungry. Due to the rural
geographical nature of the area, many people living on
the Westside do not have access to services available
in more densely populated urban areas within the county.
Many of the people receiving services are either homeless
or at risk of becoming homeless. As a result of local
economic deficiencies, a number of youth, their families
and seniors are at risk and in desperate need of assistance.
Dos Palos Youth in Crisis & Outreach distributes boxes
or bags of food, much of which has been donated. The food
is distributed on a weekly basis but, is also available
in emergency cases seven days a week – 24 hours
a day.
In
addition to boxes and bags of food, the program also provides
a well balanced, healthy meal weekly to program recipients.
The program also supplements food for the Senior Brown
Bag program. For more information about the food distribution
and outreach program, call (559) 790-1499.
