Catholic
Charities
Catholic
Charities of the Diocese of Fresno, makes available a
satellite office in the city of Merced that provides direct
service to people in need. Most of the people that utilize
their services are low-income, or in some cases homeless.
Catholic Charities goal is to work with individuals, families,
and communities to empower people to meet their needs,
address their issues, eliminate oppression, and build
a just informed and compassionate society.
Catholic
Charities receives partial funding for their Emergency
Family Crisis program from the United Way of Merced County
to achieve these lofty goals. Assisting families in times
of crisis requires meeting needs through direct services
or by referral to another agency if necessary. Through
a network of volunteers and paid employees, Catholic Charities
provides food, clothing and temporary shelter to people
in need. In addition, Catholic Charities provides assistance
for battered women by obtaining legal status with the
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). They also provide forms
assistance filling out California Franchise Tax Board
rebate forms for the Homeowners and Renters Assistance
program. Forms assistance is also available for those
seeking help with immigration forms.
Other
areas of assistance include assisting families in need
with funerals, acquiring prescriptions, facilitating transportation
for stranded travelers or for family members that may
have a loved one in the hospital. At times, people need
to talk to someone. This can be just as important as food,
clothing or shelter. For more information about Catholic
