Castle
Challenger Learning Center
The
Castle Challenger Learning Center is a non-profit organization
that exposes young minds to the fundamentals of science,
technology and engineering in an entertaining manner.
The Castle Challenger Learning Center currently receives
part of its funding from the United Way of Merced County.
That funding is earmarked for hands-on exhibits that encourage
children to explore new concepts and enjoy academic subjects
that they may have previously found to be uninspiring.
The learning center staff must constantly develop new
displays that meet the high standards previously established.
School age children K-12, who are their primary clients,
go through a maze of exhibits that challenge their expertise
of a world that, up until now, was as far from their grasp
as the universe itself. Last year, nearly 8,000 students
went on the 2-hour tour. The exhibits open minds to the
infinite possibilities that exist in a world of math and
science. It also exposes students to applied uses of science
and math that furthers their understanding of how basic
principals can eventually catapult to advancements that
literally open up new worlds to them.
The staff at the learning center have specialized knowledge
of science and math fields and incorporate the thrill
and adventure of space flight with the down to Earth necessity
to master the fundamentals of mathematics and science.
Their mission is to extend the boundaries of human knowledge,
to teach, and to inspire. Along the way, three important
skills are developed: teamwork, problem solving, and communication.
