Polie Activities League
The Atwater Police Activities
League is nonprofit agency developed in response to a
need in the community to provide a common forum for police,
citizens, and the youth of the City of Atwater and Merced
Although voluntarily administered by Atwater police officers,
the Police Activities League is a nonprofit organization
that makes a variety of social, educational, and recreational
activities available to youth.
The goal is to foster
and encourage faith in basic American principles, in the
traditions of sportsmanship, encourage good will and to
create lasting friendships. The Police Activities League
impacts the lives of young people and reduces juvenile
crime by offering sports and educational activities aimed
at self-esteem building providing positive experiences.
Their Police Explorers program is designed for Boys and
Girls between the ages of 13-17. This program teaches
youth about Law Enforcement and valuable life skills.
The BMX program is designed to allow boys and girls ages
8-17 a chance to practice and race free on a real BMX
track Their Jr. Giants Summer Baseball Program provides
an opportunity for youth to experience America's favorite
sport–baseball. This activity is available to youth
ranging from age 5 -13.
The City of Atwater's
Recreation Department and the Challenger Learning Center
have also teamed up with the Atwater Police Activities
League to provide a comprehensive after school program
for local children in grades 1st through 6th. This Program
is operated out of Atwater's Youth Center located in Veteran's
Park on school days.
