A homeless outreach team will has been hitting the streets of Merced County, talking to the County’s homeless population, arranging housing and directing them to the services they need. Our goal is to house those who have been homeless the longest and are the most vulnerable for living on the streets. United Way has two full-time Outreach Workers who are responsible for locating homeless persons who have been languishing on the streets, have not been eligible for other housing programs and have therefore developed debilitating health conditions. An Intake and Assessment process results in the prioritization of who will be assisted first. Sierra Saving Grace is then responsible for housing navigation to locate housing units and place the homeless people into housing, pay their rents for a period of time (may vary by individual) and assists them in housing retention.
